What the Flex Cap is
A screw cap with a flat flexible strap moulded into it. You carry the bottle by hooking a finger through the strap, and the cap itself seals completely, so the bottle can go in a bag on its side. It is the standard Hydro Flask lid and the one most people picture when they think of the brand.
Why it is the safe default
It has no moving parts, nothing to lose and nothing to clean out. Straw lids and sip lids are better for specific situations; the Flex Cap is better when you do not know the situation. For a large mixed-audience order where you cannot ask anyone what they want, this is the lid that generates the fewest complaints.
Where it is the wrong choice
You have to unscrew it to drink. In a car, on a bike, or anywhere one-handed, that is a real nuisance — and at 40 oz a full bottle is heavy to tip. For drivers and field crews, the Flex Straw cap is the better spec. For hot drinks, the Flex Sip lid.
